Job Summary

The overall purpose of the Process Safety Manager position is to function as the subject matter expert (SME) for process safety and hazard analysis, risk mitigation, and PSM / RMP auditing. In addition, this role will serve as in-house PSM / IH support for Safety Field Directors, the Safety IH lead, PSM engineering, and location leadership. Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Safety Central Services, this role serves to ensure process safety engineering and risk reduction design and engineering controls are implemented at our locations. As a member of the corporate safety team, the Director of Central Services will support national operations for Darling Ingredients.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive Process Safety Management (PSM) program.
  • Authors and develops policies, programs, and procedures in accordance with company safety management system and PSM /IH regulatory standards.
  • Conduct hazard assessments, process safety audits, and risk analyses to identify potential hazards and mitigation methods.
  • Ensures organization's PSM / IH compliance with OSHA's Process Safety Management Standard through robust assessments and controls.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans in response to potential incidents / process failures / substance exposures.
  • Collaborate with the Company PSM Engineering, Safety IH Lead, and support initiatives, including program writing, exposure assessments, etc.
  • Maintain reporting documentation for PSM / IH.
  • Create control measures to reduce or eliminate exposures to hazardous substances.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Safety team members to ensure developed materials meets organizational needs and PSM / IH requirements.
  • Occasionally perform facility walks, and support location implementation with programs as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, a physical science or Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of process safety / safety / process risk management / regulatory experience.
  • Strong demonstrable knowledge of relevant OSHA regulations, guidelines, and other relevant standards.
  • Strong experience in developing and implementing risk and hazard assessment and mitigation controls.
  • Strong experience with Process Hazard Analysis and Facilitation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: must work well in teams and be able to develop relationships with various levels of management.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and write clearly; strong understanding of language.
  • Self-motivated; self-starter.
  • Ability to travel 10-15% of the time, as needed.
  • Ability to work well and flourish with a high performing team.
  • Highly organized; superior time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Six Sigma, Human Factors Engineering preferred.
  • ASP/GSP/CSP, IH certifications, and/or Master's Degree in a physical science or Engineering
  • Experience with project execution.
  • Heavy industry experience preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to walk, stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl and crouch.
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Regularly required to reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment

Job duties will be carried out in multiple environments including office, plant, customer location, and transportation vehicles.
