Under directive supervision, does electrical repair and maintenance work, with a strong emphasis on troubleshooting issues on both energized and de-energized electrical circuits,

Job Description

DUTIES

1. Checking and inspecting equipment for defect in operation.

2. Troubleshooting, making repairs and overhauling equipment, such as circuit breakers, motors, magnetic couplings, generators, rheostats, starters, disconnects, switches, relays, recorders, etc., including necessary dismantling and reassembling.

3. Troubleshooting, making repairs and overhauling equipment such as pumps, centrifugal and reciprocating air compressors, fans, piping, valves, hydraulic couplings, material handling equipment, pulverizer mills, hoists, soot blowers, supports, casings, burners, ash pits, ash lines, etc., including necessary dismantling, preparing for shipment and reassembling.

4. Running conduit: installing necessary clamps and supports; pulling conductors and making connections; locating trouble on power and control circuits and making necessary repairs.

5. Meggering and testing insulation resistance on electrical equipment; adjusting and renewing brushes on rotating equipment.

6. Packing pumps and valves for high and low pressure service; relining cylinders; fitting positions, collars, sleeves, couplings and gears on station and yard equipment.

7. Operating the turbine room crane and material handling crane for general plant use and maintenance.

8. Inspecting, fitting, repairing motors, pumps, fans, mills, hoists, cranes, material handling equipment, etc.

9. Inspecting, repairing and maintaining high voltage electrostatic precipitators.

10. Completing necessary documentation of work assignments performed.

11. Recommending modifications, revisions and improvements in work procedures and methods.

12. Making special tools, dies, jigs and fixtures.

13. Using machinist's hand tools, such as files, scrapers, chisels, reamers, taps and measuring instruments.

14. Installing meters, relays, recorders, switches and similar equipment on switchboards and making necessary wiring connections.

15. Taping high voltage connections (above 6900v).

16. Exercising proper safety precautions for employees assigned to assist in the work.

17. Instructing and training employees in this and lower classifications in their work.

Performing other similar or less skilled work.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to work from specifications, detailed drawings and blueprints.
  • Must be accurate in making wiring connections and capable of performing work in a neat and skillful manner.
  • Must be able to measure, cut, thread and bend pipe of conduit of all sizes.
  • Must be able to use measuring instruments like micrometers, calipers, screw pitch gauges, thickness gauges, levels, etc.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of electrical equipment.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of rigging methods for work within the scope of this job.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of modern machine shop methods and practices and the use and care of tools.
  • Must be capable of directing work of several others assigned to assist.
  • Must be familiar with tagging and switching (Lock Out Tag Out) procedures.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the job classification through the medium tests, including material taught training courses and practical job experience.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to work overtime, as required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful outcome of the POSS/MASS test prior to interview.

Required Working Conditions

Must be able to work in a variety of environments including hot, cold, damp, and/or confined spaces.

Must be able to climb ladders and/or stairs at various heights and/or enter vessels or equipment with limited access, as well as work at heights and/or from suspended work platforms.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Must be able to walk, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, push and stand for long periods of time.

Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions.
