LinQuest is seeking a Data Science Intern to join our team in Dayton, Ohio. (Remote work location possible but less desirable)

This internship will span 8 -12 weeks during the summer (Flexible start/end dates) with the potential to go part time past this period.

This LinQtern will gain experience with Machine Learning, Data Science, Data Engineering in a team setting using python/R/SQL focused languages. This position is strong data and analytics focused, you will gain experience on our team supporting the Air Force AFRL Digital Capabilities Directorate.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate with team using data science and statistical techniques to identify data of interest, extract structured data from unstructured sources, and apply many other data wrangling patterns to make our corpus of data more useful.
  • Apply techniques from natural language processing (NLP) to understand textual data, including named entity recognition, topic modeling, and sentiment analysis.
  • Use neural networks and other machine learning (ML) concepts to find patterns in our data and to predict outcomes using tabular data (that we created via our wrangling).

Required Experience and Skills:

  • You must be a college student in good standing, enrolled in a 4 year university in your Junior or Senior year
  • Pursing a Bachelors degree in (Computer Science, Information Systems, Math, or equivalent)
  • You must have a minimum college GPA requirement of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale. If you are selected for an internship, you must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 after each completed semester/term
  • Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance is required to be considered for this position
  • Proficient in MS Office Products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with willingness to learn
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Programming languages for data manipulation and analysis such as (python/R/SQL)

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Retrieving and analyzing datasets from databases and other systems
  • Previous data science, computer science or similar internship experience
  • Data visualization tools such as Tableau, Qlikview, MS Power BI, Plotly, or Matplotlib
  • Big data tools such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Databricks, or Palantir Foundry

Compensation:

  • Starting hourly pay for this position is $24 an hour
